Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how TypingTest.one ("TypingTest.one", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information when you visit our website at https://typingtest.one, use our online typing tests, take a typing lesson, generate a typing certificate, submit a score to the leaderboard, read our blog, or contact us. It also explains the choices and rights you have regarding your information, including the rights available to residents of the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, Switzerland, California, and other jurisdictions with comprehensive privacy laws.
We built TypingTest.one around a simple principle: a typing test should not require an account, a subscription, or a large amount of personal data. The core typing test is completely free and works without registration. Because of that, most of the information described in this policy is either technical information generated automatically by your browser, information stored locally on your own device, or information you deliberately choose to give us. We encourage you to read this policy in full so you understand exactly what happens with your data when you use our service.
By accessing or using TypingTest.one, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of it, please discontinue use of the website. This policy should be read together with our Terms of Service and our Cookie Policy, which describe the rules for using the site and the specific cookie technologies we rely on.
1. Who We Are and How to Reach Us
TypingTest.one is an independent online platform that provides free typing speed tests, typing accuracy measurement, structured typing lessons, multilingual practice texts, downloadable typing certificates, and educational articles about typing technique, keyboard ergonomics, and productivity. The service is available in multiple languages, including English, Arabic, Hindi, French, Spanish, and German.
The controller of the personal data described in this policy is the operator of TypingTest.one. If you have any question, request, or complaint about privacy, data protection, cookies, or advertising on our site, you can contact us at contact@typingtest.one or through the contact form available on our Contact page. We aim to answer every privacy request within thirty (30) days, and sooner where the law requires a faster response.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the minimum amount of information necessary to operate, secure, and improve the service. The categories below describe everything we may collect, and the circumstances in which each category applies. Many visitors will only ever fall into the first two categories.
2.1 Information Stored Locally on Your Device
When you complete a typing test, your results — words per minute (WPM), characters per minute (CPM), accuracy percentage, error count, test duration, selected difficulty, and chosen language — are stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. This data allows you to see your history, track progress over time, and generate a certificate without creating an account. Local storage data is not automatically transmitted to our servers, is not readable by us, and can be deleted at any time by clearing your browser's site data. If you use a different browser, device, or private browsing window, this history will not follow you.
We also store lightweight preference values locally, such as your selected interface language, theme, sound settings, keyboard layout, and test configuration. These preferences exist purely to make the site behave the way you expect on your next visit.
2.2 Information You Voluntarily Provide
Certain optional features ask you to provide information directly. When you submit a score to the public leaderboard, you choose a display name or nickname that is stored together with your WPM, accuracy, test language, and the timestamp of the attempt. You are free to use a pseudonym; we do not require or verify real names. When you generate a typing certificate, you may enter the name that should appear on the certificate. When you contact us by email or through the contact form, we receive your email address, your message, and anything else you decide to include in it.
If you create an optional account (for example, to manage saved results or, in the case of site administrators, to access publishing tools), we collect your email address and an encrypted, hashed version of your password. We never store passwords in plain text and we cannot recover a password on your behalf — we can only send you a reset link.
2.3 Information Collected Automatically
Like virtually all websites, our hosting infrastructure and analytics tools automatically receive certain technical information when you load a page. This may include your IP address (often truncated or anonymized), browser type and version, operating system, device category (desktop, tablet, mobile), screen resolution, referring URL, the pages you view, the approximate geographic region derived from your IP address, language preferences sent by your browser, and the date and time of your visit. This information is used for security, abuse prevention, error diagnosis, load balancing, and aggregate audience measurement.
Ratings
If you rate the typing test or an article, we store your rating, the page, the date, and a random anonymous identifier created at that moment and kept in your browser's local storage, so that you can change or remove your rating. To limit abuse, a hash of your IP address that changes every day is kept for 24 hours. We never store the IP address itself, and only the average and the number of ratings are made public.
2.4 Information We Never Collect
We do not record the individual keystrokes you type outside the context of scoring the active test, we do not capture the content of other tabs or applications, we do not access your microphone or camera, we do not request precise GPS location, and we do not knowingly collect government identifiers, financial account numbers, health data, biometric data, or other special categories of sensitive personal data.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above for a limited set of clearly defined purposes: to deliver the typing test and calculate your speed and accuracy in real time; to display your personal history and progress; to generate certificates containing the name you supply; to publish leaderboard entries you explicitly submit; to answer support messages and respond to legal or privacy requests; to detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent scores, automated submissions, spam, and abuse; to monitor site stability and fix technical errors; to understand which lessons and articles are useful so we can improve our content; and to display advertising that keeps the service free for everyone.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal effects, we do not build individual advertising profiles ourselves, and we do not sell personal information in the way that term is defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act. Where our advertising partners engage in interest-based advertising, we describe your opt-out options in Section 6.
4. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA and UK Visitors)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process personal data only when we have a valid legal basis under the General Data Protection Regulation. We rely on contract when processing is necessary to deliver the service you requested, such as running a typing test or issuing a certificate. We rely on legitimate interests for security monitoring, abuse prevention, aggregate analytics, and basic service improvement, always balanced against your rights and expectations. We rely on consent for non-essential cookies, personalized advertising, and any optional communications; where consent is the basis, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. Finally, we rely on legal obligation where retention or disclosure is required by applicable law.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies, grouped into three categories.
Strictly necessary cookies and local storage keep the site functional. They remember your language selection, your typing preferences, your session state if you are signed in, and security tokens that protect forms from abuse. These cannot be switched off through our interface because the site would stop working correctly without them.
Analytics cookies help us understand aggregate usage: how many people visit, which lessons are completed, which articles are read, and where users encounter errors. We use Google Analytics for this purpose, configured to collect aggregated, non-identifying usage data. Analytics never tells us who you are as an individual.
Advertising cookies are set by Google AdSense and its partners to measure ad delivery, limit how many times you see the same ad, detect invalid traffic, and — where permitted — personalize the ads you see. Full details of the cookies we use, and instructions for managing them, are available in our Cookie Policy. You can also block or delete cookies directly in your browser settings, though doing so may affect parts of the site.
6. Advertising and Google AdSense
TypingTest.one is free to use and is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites across the internet.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visits to our site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices. European users can additionally manage vendor preferences at youronlinechoices.eu.
Third-party ad networks may collect device data, browser identifiers, approximate location derived from IP address, and browsing behaviour in order to select and measure advertisements. These vendors act as independent controllers of that data under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. We do not share your email address, account details, certificate name, or leaderboard identity with advertisers. Where required by law, personalized advertising is only enabled after you have given consent through the consent notice presented on first visit.
7. Service Providers and Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data. We share information only with a small number of providers that make the service possible, and only to the extent needed for them to perform their function. These include our website hosting and content delivery provider, which processes technical request data; our backend and database provider, which stores leaderboard entries, optional account credentials, and blog content; Google Analytics for aggregated measurement; and Google AdSense for advertising delivery. Each provider is bound by its own contractual and legal obligations regarding data protection.
We may also disclose information where we believe in good faith that disclosure is required to comply with a law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or governmental request; to enforce our Terms of Service; to investigate suspected fraud, abusive leaderboard submissions, or security incidents; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public. If TypingTest.one is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and we will notify users of any change in the controller of their data.
8. International Data Transfers
Our infrastructure and service providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where personal data of EEA, UK, or Swiss residents is transferred outside those regions, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, adequacy decisions, or equivalent mechanisms offered by our providers. You may contact us for more information about the specific safeguards applied to a given transfer.
9. Data Retention
We keep personal data only for as long as it serves the purpose for which it was collected. Locally stored test history remains on your device until you clear it. Leaderboard entries remain published until you ask us to remove them or until we retire the relevant leaderboard. Contact messages are kept for as long as necessary to resolve your enquiry and to maintain a record of the correspondence, typically no longer than twenty-four months. Optional account records are retained while the account is active and deleted on request. Server and security logs are retained for a short period, generally not exceeding twelve months, after which they are deleted or aggregated. Analytics data is retained according to the retention settings configured in Google Analytics.
10. How We Protect Your Information
We apply technical and organisational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data we hold. All traffic to and from TypingTest.one is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Database access is restricted by row-level security policies so that records are only readable by the parties entitled to see them. Passwords are stored using strong one-way hashing. Administrative tools are protected behind authenticated, role-restricted routes. We limit internal access to the smallest number of people necessary and review our configuration periodically.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we ever become aware of a data breach that affects your personal data and poses a risk to your rights, we will notify you and the competent supervisory authority as required by applicable law.
11. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights: the right to be informed about how your data is used; the right of access to a copy of the personal data we hold about you; the right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data; the right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"); the right to restrict processing in certain circumstances; the right to data portability in a structured, machine-readable format; the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests or to direct marketing; and the right to withdraw consent at any time.
California residents additionally have the right to know the categories of personal information collected, the purposes for collection, and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared; the right to request deletion; the right to correct inaccurate information; the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising; and the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information for money. To exercise any right, email contact@typingtest.one with a description of your request. We may ask for limited information to verify that the request comes from you or an authorised agent. Exercising your rights is free of charge unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.
If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we have not handled your data properly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority, although we would appreciate the chance to resolve the matter with you directly first.
12. Children's Privacy
TypingTest.one is a general-audience educational tool and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Typing practice is frequently used in schools, and teachers or parents supervising younger learners should note that the core test requires no account and stores results locally. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information — for example, by submitting a real name to the leaderboard — please contact us and we will delete the information promptly.
13. Third-Party Links and Embedded Content
Our blog articles and lessons occasionally link to external websites, tools, or resources that we consider useful. Those sites operate independently and are governed by their own privacy policies and terms. We are not responsible for the content, security practices, or data handling of any third-party site, and the presence of a link does not imply endorsement. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any external site before providing personal information to it.
14. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers transmit a "Do Not Track" signal. Because there is still no industry consensus on how such signals should be interpreted, we do not currently respond to Do Not Track headers. Where legally required, we do honour recognised opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC) for interest-based advertising.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, new features, updated advertising partners, or changes in the law. When we make a material change, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide a more prominent notice on the site. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of TypingTest.one after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
16. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, wish to exercise a privacy right, want to request removal of a leaderboard entry, or need clarification about our cookies and advertising practices, please email contact@typingtest.one or use the form on our Contact page. We take every message seriously and will respond as quickly as we can.
